The table stands on four elegant carved cabriole legs. The body of the table features carved panels to the sides and back while the front frame has sweeping curves which the drawer fronts follow.
Our lovely customer Helen owns this large table. She contacted us to ask about changing its colour from off-white to French Grey and then reinstating the gilding work. She also wanted it lightly distressed. We brought the table into our workshops and found that it was made by a top London cabinet maker. The piece had been given a heavy crackle glaze and the finish was quite badly chipped in places.
Our main challenge was to sand back the crackle glazed finish sufficiently to be able to apply a good new finish. We also made good the chipped areas.
Multi coat paint finish:
Prior to the final varnish coat, we applied gold leaf to the carvings on the table and then lightly distressed the piece.
