Our wonderful customer Melissa had been looking for a solution to her hall storage problems for some time. She discovered The Fettling Fairies website and saw previous examples we had supplied to our customers. Melissa had extensive discussions with Joy the Bossy Fairy; she explained that while the storage needed to be as large as possible for her 6 member family, she did not want it to be too deep in order that it did not stand out too far into the hallway. Part of her specification included storage for motorcycle helmets and some mirrored doors.
We produced drawings of the proposed solution and once these were fine-tuned with Melissa, an agreement was reached. We contacted one of our craftsman suppliers who produces top quality pine wardrobes and he manufactured this bespoke cupboard to our specifications. Due to its size, the cupboard was manufactured in 7 main sections: the top crown/cornice, 4 tall cupboards across the top, 2 drawer chests at the bottom.
Once the new wardrobe was delivered to our workshops, we prepared it for painting by fine sanding all the surfaces inside and out.
The cupboard received the following multi-coat paint finish:
- Thorough preparation
- professionally spray painted
- one coat of shellac based primer
- one coat water-based acrylic undercoat in Dark Tones on internal surfaces.
- one coat water-based acrylic undercoat in Red & Warm Tones on external surfaces.
- Two coats water-based acrylic satin in Railings to internal surfaces.
- Three coats water-based acrylic Satin in India Yellow to external surfaces.
We fitted film-backed mirrors to the two central doors. After this, we fitted backing rails and black Victorian cast iron coat hooks into the two left-hand sections. Pewter knobs were fitted to the doors, pewter pulls to the drawers completed the look.
We delivered this cupboard to Melissa's West London home ourselves so that we could assemble the piece in situ. It looked perfect there!
