Here is a Joseph Fitter 1870 wind-out table that our lovely client Gemma purchased and sent to us for the Fettling Fairies' magic touch. These tables wind out and then an extra leaf can be placed in (sometimes more than one).

When it arrived, we found it was rather sorry for itself, loose and sagging with quite a bit of woodworm damage. We gave it a thorough woodworm treatment, gave attention to a couple of loose leg joints and TLC to the wonky frame. We replaced the sliding guides and made the winding mechanism work truly.

The frame was primed, undercoated and had a couple of coats of Pale Linen satin paint. The Poplar tops were sanded back to remove the very faded mahogany stain, then sealed. Tops and frame were Carnauba waxed. We are delighted with the end result – as was Gemma.
