French Lions Head Antique Oak Table and 6 Chairs

French Lions Head Antique Oak Table and 6 Chairs

An 1870s antique French Library Table with carved lions heads on all 4 corners. Here used as a dining table with 4 French country chairs and 2 Louis style chairs.

This is a French antique table with character, having carved lion heads on the 4 corners. We managed to date it as 1875, it was originally created as a Library table for a Grand Chateau perhaps? When it arrived with us it did require quite an amount of repair . Our clever practical fairy worked his magic to restore both the table and chairs to a sound and sturdy condition. Our research told us that the lion heads originally had rings through their mouths (missing) so we gave each of them a new one.

The table and chairs (after full preparation ) have all been painted in Regency White water based acrylic and finished with Carnauba Wax. The 4 chairs are certainly old and French although we have been unable to find anything similar. They appear to have begun life with rattan seats and backs although they arrived with us sporting tired upholstery. We added the two Louis style chairs to make a set of 6. We have recovered all the chairs using a beautiful dark blue flowers Toile fabric, this has been scotchguard protected.
