An antique mahogany wardrobe with central single mirrored door flanked on either side by panelled sections with elaborate carvings at the top. The body of the wardrobe sits on a separate base containing a very deep drawer; the wardrobe is topped by a moulded cornice. Multi coat paint finish, the colour is Spell Grey.
Our Practical Fairy thinks that the main section of this wardrobe was originally part of a much wider piece of furniture and that the bottom section with drawer was made to fit the single 'box'. Most antique wardrobes were made before the invention of coathangers and are a little too narrow front to back for coat hangers. We have therefore fitted a rail in this wardrobe to suit hanging items without hangers - ideal for a feature hall cloaks cupboard.
After preparation, we professionally spray painted the wardrobe. We gave it two coats of shellac based primer sealer followed by two coats of water based acrylic resin undercoat. Next we painted two coats of water based acrylic satin, the colour is Spell Grey. Finally we gave the piece a coat of water based matt varnish. We also painted the interior of the wardrobe and fitted a new high hanging rail complete with bespoke metal coat hooks. We also re fitted the original double coat hooks at a lower level for easy reach.
The deep drawer at the bottom is ideal for storage of linen, clothing or shoes. We have cleaned and refitted the original drawer pulls and door pull. It comes with its original keys.
The wardrobe separates for transportation.
