An antique pine dressing table, possibly early 1800s. Standing on turned legs, it has two drawers to the simple base. The elegant mirror is supported by carved posts resting on a pair of small jewellery drawers on each side. Many interesting original features. This delightful dressing table is a stunning piece of furniture. We were told that it was purchased as an antique about 25 years ago. We haven't the expertise to put a date on it, however we think it may have been made in the early 1800s. The drawer bottoms are solid wood (not plywood) and the drawers are made with hand cut dovetail joints. We cannot see any signs of use of circular saw on the wood.
When it arrived with The Fettling Fairies it was in need of some tlc. We didn't want to undermine its integrity so decided to keep it as true as we could, by simply bringing it up to its full potential. We sanded the top of the table to remove makeup marks and then applied an antique pine stain. Several coats of natural wax were then applied to bring out the natural beauty of the wood. The drawer fronts were sanded, primed and painted in "Old English White" eggshell paint. The mirror surround was cleaned & waxed and now highlights the beautiful detailing.
To complete the look we papered all the drawers using a Parisian script paper. We are adding a refurbished pine stool which we have painted in the same "Old English White" and then recovered in a vintage "Old Roses" fabric.
