Our great customer Stephen contacted us to as if we could manufacture a hall cupboard for his villa in the Algarve. Portugal. He needed hanging space, mirrored doors, shoe storage and umbrella storage. As they rented out the villa at certain times, he wanted a part of the shoe storage section to be secured at those times. An added complication was that the villa had underfloor heating.
We sent Stephen drawings for approval and once all was agreed, we commenced manufacture. We made the base part of the cabinet from furniture grade MDF so it would cope with the heat from the villa floor and made vents at the back of the bottom shelve sections so hot air would not be trapped underneath.
The cupboard has a tall section which is open through to the right hand lower shelf where umbrellas can be stored. We made a removal security panel which slides in grooves across the upper part of the shoe storage area; this slides in from the left-hand cupboard and can be secured within the left-hand cupboard with a padlock.
The cupboard received the following multi-coat paint finish:
- Thorough preparation
- professionally spray painted
- one coat of shellac based primer
- one coat water-based acrylic undercoat in colours to match topcoats
- Two coats water-based acrylic satin enamel in Morchella externally
- Two coats water-based acrylic satin enamel in Little Owl internally.
Once the cupboard was complete, Stephen arranged shipping of the cabinet to the Algarve and kindly sent us a picture of the cabinet in place.
